pitcher plant plants

Not Dead

I have a purple pitcher plant and I’ve had it for several years now. I really don’t remember how I came about this. This year, for the first time ever, it started to grow a flower stalk. It did that and then the whole plant proceeded to just die. The flower never even bloomed. I need to do more reading, but, if flower stalks in these plants use as much energy as they do in flytraps then they can be very detrimental to the health of the plant. I probably should have cut it off. I left the plant for maybe a month or so. Luckily, I didn’t just dump it out. To my surprise, I noticed that there is a new pitcher growing.

Father’s Day Flytrap

My father’s day gift was given early. The Mrs ordered it and it arrived a lot faster than she expected. She was obligated to give it to me since it couldn’t just sit in a box for nearly 3 weeks. There were 2 different types of flytraps. The first was a “red dragon” variant. They’re supposed to be a deep red if given enough sunlight. Common flytraps will only turn red, inside of the “mouths”, if given lots of sun. The other plant was supposed to be a sawtooth variant but it looks more traditional. We’re going to let them grow a bit and see if that changes. How lucky am I to get gifts like these?
